Biografía

It must have been at a very young age when german born artist Cornelia Kraft first experienced the attraction which comes from seductive, dramatic or terrifying images being part of our world of second hand experience. Later on, when she was studying Fine Arts and Theatre Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Stuttgart, Germany and at San Francisco State University, California, she began to investigate these issues in her artworks.

Focusing on digital video, installation and collage, all kind of footage became a possible starting point for her works.

Since then Cornelia has shown her works in various spaces and has taken part in performances and theatre projects. Constantly seeking new inspiration she came to the city of Barcelona where she has been living up to now.

"Collage technology is the systematic exploitation of a coincidentally or artificially provoked fusion of two or more essentially differing realities in what appears to be an unsuitable level for it -- and the spark of poetry, which is communicated during the approximation of these realities."

Max Ernst

In the series "Untold stories" Cornelia is using a special kind of collage technique to associate random pictures to new, often surreal panoramic scenarios in which various stories can be implied.

The more the images are enlarged the more their specific visual qualities become visible. Sometimes the most beautiful effects can be attributed to the coincidental character which is intrinsic to this technique.
